These foothills of north Georgia have quite a history.
Back in 500 AD an ancient people built and lived in around earthen temples. The
Mound Dwellers have been compared to the ancient Egyptians because they buried their
chiefs in temples lined with gold and treasure. When the white man moved in the Mound
Dwellers were forced to leave their homes, their land and their gold.
They left one more thing.
A CURSE!
The Dahlonaga Gold Rush saw most of these hills stripped of the precious metals before
the white bandits moved west to California. One local man Scruffy Michael knew the
legend and believed the Gold Rush had not found the vein of gold known to the Mound
Dwellers as the Golden River.
After 20 years of searching, Scruffy Michael found what he had been looking for and to
hide his secret he built a mining equipment company around the opening to the Mound Dwellers
river of gold. Michael's Mining Company was off limits to everyone except his most trusted employees
and family, who were forced to live inside these walls, locked in with Scruffy's secret.
Legend has it that when the cursed shaft was opened, Scruffy Michael and his family paid
a price.
Now this building houses what is left of Scruffy's dream and his family. It also hides Scruffy's
nightmare and the curse of an ancient people!
